Custom Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) Cutting Tools
PCD cutting tools offer several advantages in various machining applications. Widely considered one of the hardest engineered materials in existence, PCD is a synthetic diamond product that is sintered together in the presence of a catalytic metal under extremely high pressure and temperatures.
Our custom PCD tooling offers unbeatable hardness for improved cutting performance and longer-lasting wear resistance. PCD cutting tools are especially well-suited for machining abrasive materials such as today’s engineering plastics, high-silicon aluminum alloys, and various non-ferrous metals. Additionally, PCD treatment gives the tool a low coefficient of friction which minimizes cutting forces, further optimizing the machining process while maximizing tool life.
Custom Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) Cutting Tools
Knight Carbide also designs and manufactures custom CBN cutting tools for a wide range of machining applications. Often considered to be the second-hardest man-made material, CBN tool coating is produced through the bonding of cubic boron nitride grains with ceramic material on the tool surface.
The resulting surface is considered to be as hard as diamond on the Mohs scale, which can offer substantially better wear resistance than standard coatings and treatments. Featuring excellent thermal stability, CBN is especially suitable for machining hardened steels and high-speed roughing of gray cast iron, the heat from which can quickly wear down standard cutting tools.
