PRECISION-ENGINEERED TURNING & BORING TOOLS
Turning and boring are among the most fundamental processes in metalworking. From simple to highly complex, these operations require a cutting edge specifically engineered for the material being machined, as well as the cuts required to achieve the intended configuration of the finished component.
Knight Carbide produces exceptional cutting inserts in multiple grades for both external and internal turning operations. Delivering inserts that bring the greatest value to our clients means engineering them to strict parameters. Knight Carbide inserts are engineered to perform precisely and consistently, with maximum durability with efficient chip removal.
CUTTING TURNING TOOLS THAT CUT TIME AND COST

Determining the characteristics of the ideal cutting tool for any turning job necessitates the consideration of many parameters. The number and complexity of the expected turning applications and the properties of the metal being cut dictate the material and geometry of the tool required. Knight Carbide turning tool inserts are meticulously engineered to their intended purpose.
The ideal cutting insert for a turning operation delivers a cut depth calibrated to reduce the number of cuts required. Meanwhile, the insert is also designed to reduce cutting speed and feed time to their optimal levels for the lowest heat generation possible. This improves durability and keeps costs down.
The geometry, grade, shape and size of the insert, its optimal nose radius and lead angle, are all factors in determining the final form of the best insert for any given operation. Also considered are contextual parameters such as inherent vibration levels and other particulars of the tooling system used.
EXTERNAL TURNING
External turning encompasses all the cutting techniques used to create the outer contours and finished surface of a component. External processes include longitudinal turning, profile turning and face turning, which are among the most common applications for Knight Carbide turning inserts.
INTERNAL TURNING
Internal turning creates the inner diameter of the component. These processes present particular challenges. Excessive vibration and poor chip evacuation can lead to insert breakage and substandard surface finish. These costly complications can be mitigated by selecting the optimal turning insert for the job, or magnified by using anything else.
All Knight Carbide turning cutting tools feature geometry that maximizes strength without compromising performance. Insert size is dictated by the depth of the cut, while the angle and radius of the insert nose are maximized to achieve optimal strength without risking breakage due to vibration.

CHIP BREAKER STYLES
Knight Carbide turning inserts are available in a range of chip breaker styles and sizes, including KS2 – Stainless Steel, KPR – Steel, KPM – Steel Medium, KPH – Steel High Positive Edge, KPF – Steel Finish, and KSF – Heat-Resistant Super Alloys.
BORING TOOLS FOR A STRONG START AND A FLAWLESS FINISH

Creating precision holes is among the most fundamental functions of machining. It can also be among the most technically demanding. Machining a hole to the precise diameter, depth and angle required and finishing it to spec necessitate selecting the right tools for each step of the process.
Knight Carbide’s single-point boring tools and carbide boring inserts are engineered for superior performance and longer tool life. Precision-ground to improve chip removal and cutting edge strength, our carbide turning and boring tool inserts are available in industry-standard and special radii. Additionally, Knight Carbide fabricates micro IC inserts and round, single-point stick boring tools.
With the positioning, geometry and surface finish characteristics defined, Knight Carbide can supply you with the means to bore a hole in any viable workpiece. From a pre-drilled initial hole, rough boring tools are applied to bring the bore roughly to the desired diameter, leaving just enough stock for effective finishing. During rough boring, a Knight Carbide single-point tool will achieve maximum material extraction, clearing the way for fine boring or reaming to bring the hole to its final diameter and finish.
Knight Carbide boring heads, bridge bars and inserts are designed for maximum efficiency and versatility with minimal deflection and vibration.
ROUGH BORING
Knight Carbide rough boring tools extract material quickly as you widen an existing hole to its intended diameter, preparing it for finishing.
FINE BORING
Built for strength and accuracy, Knight Carbide fine boring tools are exceptionally rigid, to maintain precision finishing for close-tolerance results.
